This is a performance of one of William Appling's favorite pieces by Scott Joplin, "Binks' Waltz." It is included on the Albany Records recording, "William Appling Plays Scott Joplin and J.S. Bach," (TROY1163). William Appling (1932-2008) was a brilliant educator, conductor, arranger and pianist. His recordings with William Appling Singers & Orchestra have received international acclaim. Scott Joplin composed "Binks' Waltz" in 1905 on a commission from William Morgens, a St. Louis dry cleaner, who had requested a piece from Joplin to celebrate his son's birth.
