A minister laid aside in a Scottish highland manse 're-discovered' this slender volume and subsequently rose up from his sick bed like a man renewed. His view of the book and of the author (who belonged to the same last century Free Church school as Robert M'Cheyne and Hugh Martin) was soon shared by others and the publishers consider it worthy of a place beside any literature of its kind.
Starting with the three statements of John 13:1 - which have been described as 'three gates of pearl into a golden city', Ross takes us once more through the last hours of Jesus with his disciples. When at last the book closes in the glory of Christ's 'High Priestly Prayer' the reader can sympathise with the author's words in his preface: 'With the whole field of revelation before us, can we ever expect to find such a rich mine again?'
