Pete Seeger had composed the music and adapted the lyrics from the book of Ecclesiastes some years years before this first recorded version appeared in the Limeliters LP “Folk Matinee.” The subsequent folk-rock best-seller by The Byrds https://youtu.be/FfcGyY0LBoI was a late-1965 entry.
